Psychotherapy

In the field of somatic therapy, it is believed that our mind, body, spirit and emotions are interrelated and connected to each other. I help my clients develop an attuned and compassionate relationship with their physical body. This may look like slowing down and tuning in to body sensations, noticing body posture while talking, or exploring gestures to see what they reveal about your feelings and deeper core material.

I may also suggest movement, yoga poses and other ways of connecting with your body that you can do at home.

Mindfulness is simply bringing your attention to what is happening in the present moment with a compassionate and non-judgmental attitude. It is through our capacity to compassionately be with the truth of our experience, rather than push it away, that we can make positive change in our lives.

I draw strongly from Internal Family Systems (IFS) and the Hakomi method. IFS is a method that explicitly names and works with different “parts” in our systems. Hakomi is an experiential somatic therapy method that uses mindfulness and creative experiments to uncover and transform core material. These two modalities are a wonderful pairing to help a client discover a map of their inner world, while also getting to know one’s own somatic and inner wisdom.

Hakomi is based on the Buddhist and Taoist principles of:

  • Non-Violence

  • Organicity

  • Unity

  • Mind/Body Integration

  • Mindfulness
